Growing up in the Canebrakes of Louisiana at the turn of the century Ben garnered a reputation as an incredible outdoorsman with a legendary sense of direction, he preferred foot hunting for the stealth and quiet approach, believing that it gave him 'the edge' over his quarry. Whereas the West specialized in six shooters, the south was known for knives and at the time was one of the most violent areas in the U.S. Jim Bowie famous for cold steel in Louisiana and the infamous ‘Bowie knife’ was responsible for the bloodiest knife design in U.S. history, but Ben preferred his own designs and the ‘Lilly Knife’ having grown up in a family of blacksmiths.
